WHO ARE WE?
What does HANSANOVA mean?
- It is the spirit of the Northern European merchant guild "Hanza" that existed in the Middle Ages, which awakened music merchants from the only city in Lithuania that belonged to this network - Kaunas.
What does HANSANOVA play?
- Our repertoire consists of magical songs from past centuries. These are Celtic, Germanic and old European melodies interwoven with Lithuanian folk elements, pirate riddles, and classic sea work songs from the Middle Ages. Often, when creating our arrangements for well-known medieval, renaissance and folk melodies, we balance between acoustic folk rock thunder, troubadour lyric and polka rhythm pulsation. In Lithuanian, English and German, we sing about friendship, chivalrous love, tavern fun.
Where can you hear HANSANOVA?
- We have been performing throughout the Baltic region, at various festivals and events for 14 years. Kaunas Hanza, Jotva gate festivals, Trakai History Museum, medieval festivals in the old towns of Riga, Tallinn, Parnu, international cat exhibitions LGAC, various TV shows, etc. are invited. We also play our shows in music clubs and are invited to play at private shows.
What makes the HANSANOVA special?
- Each of our performances is accompanied by a festive mood, because we are a costume group. We constantly invest in exclusive stage clothes, shoes, jewelry, paraphernalia. We dress in the stylized style of Renaissance musicians. Our instruments are carefully selected, authentic and unique in both their sound and appearance. These are the ancestors of modern guitars; lute, bouzouki, stick necks, lauda. Our percussion instruments are handmade instruments made of extremely high quality wood and natural leather.

In 2020, at the initiative of Giedrius, the band returns to its roots, abandoning the remaining long-term members of the group, shrinking to a family ensemble, the backbone of which was and remains the Balčiūnai and Dosinai families. The band returns to the idea of writing and releasing it's first debut album, although it has already released quite a few singles throughout it's career. Better late than never, and especially now, when we can do it with great dedication and maximum quality, we present to you our debut album - "Tavernos Kronikos". This is a conceptual album. Just by sitting and listening to the story, in an old, musty medieval tavern by a dying candle and a sparkling mug of drink.
